Altamont kicked off the 2008 season with the Big Dog Open. This 2 day show was a tribute to American Graffiti. It featured fan friendly entertainment, autographs with local racers and a car show but the main draw of the weekend was the West Car Late Models, Modifieds and Stock Cars including the West Coast Enduro Cars.

31 cars took the green flag on Saturday for the 100 lap $2000 to win enduro and 21 cars came back on Sunday for the last chance 50 lap race that paid $500 to win.
The enduro action was on a modified version of the road course that had eliminated the chicane portion between turn 2 and 3. This created a fast racing surface with each race resembling a flat out sprint. It was truly “in your face” style of racing. The dry pavement allowed the top dogs to turn very good lap times. There was some good bump and run driving and very few wrecks due to the drivers working together to put on a good show.

Sunday’s action required the top 6 drivers from Saturday to field other drivers, some of which had their crew or fathers in the car. This made it interesting as all drivers were impressive with their runs. We also had a local TV celebrity who decided to hit everything on the track finally ending his day early when his car got airborne and landed on a stack of tires leaving his front end at least 6’ off the ground. His presence on the track was covered by local TV providing great coverage for the West Coast Enduro Cars.

All in all, it was a GREAT weekend and an awesome kick off to the 2008 Enduro Season. Special thanks to Altamont Motorsports Park and the Noceti Grupe for their efforts in providing a great show for the racers and fans alike.
